As of writing this, I’m currently living in Queensland.

As We Get To Know Each Other… You’ll Quickly Realize That I’m The Luckiest Person On Earth - So Let’s Talk About Where I Was In December 2017...

I was 28, living on the Gold Coast.

I had just given birth to my first baby, Harvey,

... and was instantly met with a whirlwind of emotions that I could never have seen coming...

In the 10 years prior to Cocoon & Cradle, I was working as a paediatric nurse and midwife, and received multiple awards in these roles.

I was, and still am, really good at it...

So when I was pregnant with my first child, I thought I would be fine as a mum.

I had over a decade's worth of experience working with babies and children, so how hard could having a baby be?

I was wrong.

He wouldn't sleep...

I was immediately plunged into a sea of overwhelm...

Fueled by masses of conflicting and confusing information thrown at me about sleep and feeding.

I would desperately google at 2am trying to find support…

But He Wouldn’t Do What Google Said He Was Meant To Do…

He wouldn’t go down drowsy but awake, he hated the cot, he refused to have a nap longer than 45 minutes…

…And he most definitely didn’t sleep 12 hours overnight.

Despite books and online advice saying he was old enough and needed to drop night feeds to sleep for longer...

He had other plans.

And any effort made by me to get him to change his mind resulted in floods of tears for both of us, only making the situation ten times worse.

In The End I Was Left With Two Choices…

I could ontinue failing to get him to sleep using advice I’d found online...

Or try to let him cry it out…

Having nowhere left to turn, I did just that.

I put him into the other room and closed the door…

…And the moment he started crying, I could immediately feel my heart sink and break into a million, tiny pieces.

Unable to go in and soothe him because I felt like I had no other choice…

I had to stand here and wait.

If this was supposed to be the right thing to do, then why did it feel so wrong?

It was a never ending nightmare, and I just kept thinking to myself…

…What on Earth have I signed up for?

I’d had enough.

Sound familiar?

I Knew There Was A Better Way. There Had To Be A Better Way…

It was at that moment that I decided to become a Holistic Sleep Coach, so I could finally learn how to get Harvey to sleep….

…And not have to rely on Google articles from random guru’s I knew nothing about…
