GOOD SCIENCE GUIDES

Good Science the Sleep Training Culture Isn’t Talking About

Discover the Evidence-Based Research and Start Parenting Through the Night Your Way

Your nighttime parenting choices make an impact.

It’s easy to listen to every single voice other than your own intuition. Whether it’s your neighbor’s, your mother’s, your mother-in-law’s, your barista’s...the list of competing opinions is endless and overwhelming.

It’s enough to make any new parent feel defeated, anxious, and exhausted. And how could you not? You’re only human after all.

Interestingly, it’s our human nature and our biology that stands in contrast to what we’re being told is the “right” way to get our babies to sleep at night.

Solitary sleep. Drowsy but awake. Feed, play, sleep. Self-soothing. Sleep training.

Sound familiar?

Yet these black & white rules and strategies don’t make sense to you.

And they shouldn’t. Because they’re arbitrary. They’re not backed by science. They’re not rooted in developmental psychology. They’re not supported by neuroscience.

Perhaps intuition already tells you this. But what if I told you science agrees wholeheartedly?

Kind Words from the Mama Village

“Stumbling on your website is one of the best things to happen to me since the baby came.”

You have taught me to trust myself when it comes to my baby! That is such a valuable thing. Instead of living in fear and doubt, [I’ve learn to go with] what I instinctively knew to be right. Thank you. Stumbling upon your website is one of the best things to happen to me since the baby came. Keep up the good work! You have made it into a ministry.

“Even as a midwife and IBCLC it's still hard to ignore the myths that are so entrenched in everyday baby culture.”

Thank you so much for the reassurance about infant sleep. Even as a midwife and IBCLC it's still hard to ignore the myths that are so entrenched in everyday baby culture. However reading your advice has given me the confidence to know I'm doing the right thing. Sometimes you've just got to hear it from someone else. I'll be trusting my gut instinct more now.

“ You are amazing and your words have hit close with me. Keep doing what you’re doing!”

My daughter is 9 months and we started cosleeping 3 months ago. I wish we would have done it from the get go, but as a new mom, I listened to family and friends constantly telling me what to do with sleep. Your website and these five sleep myths along with tons of additional research on benefits of no sleep training and cosleeping have led us to become parents who would never recommend sleep training to friends or family with new little bundles. Keep doing what you’re doing!”

MEET TRACY

I'm Tracy

the founder, writer and advocate behind the award-winning blog, Raised Good - a guide to natural parenting in the modern world. Based in Vancouver and originally launched in 2016, I’ve been overwhelmed by the positive response and the global community that’s developed.

Our common thread is that our instincts are telling us something about the way our culture tells us to raise children isn’t working. And while I may not have all the answers, I’m willing to ask the tough questions and advocate for kids and for you, their brave and amazing mum.

Together we’re reclaiming the wonder of motherhood and the joy of childhood one decision at a time.

Motherhood isn’t meant to be spent worrying about what other people think or googling “Is it ok to nurse my baby to sleep?

The aim of The Sleep Series is not to infer that all parents can or should bedshare, or any other act of “natural parenting”. Rather, it is my hope that you will come to understand the why for your choices based on research, along with a constant practice of mindfulness and following your intuition.

I want you to relax in the knowledge that your choice to be responsive to your baby is the right one.
